More Than a Rescue release update

I hit a bit of a snag this past week with a surprise ER visit but am gradually catching up on all things bookwise.

More Than a Rescue is now available pretty much everywhere a reader can buy ebooks. And it’s free, or should be everywhere except Amazon. I’m hoping they will fall in line and price match soon.  So, even if you primarily read on kindle, feel free to go ahead and pick it up somewhere else…like with the Nook app or iBooks, and then add it to your kindle library after it goes free. It’s a short little read so the price will likely remain perma-free.

Everything will be okay.

She didn’t need an extravagant affair, but Chris’s mother wouldn’t rest unless everything was perfect—meaning June’s idea of perfect, not Olivia’s.

The main reason Olivia hadn’t left all the decisions up to her future mother-in-law was cost. She didn’t have any family and didn’t need a big extravaganza to start off her life with a man she’d been engaged to for almost two years. Not to mention, she didn’t want to hand over her savings to a woman whose eyes lit with an almost maniacal gleam anytime the words marriage or wedding were mentioned.

Her and Chris’s relationship had moved into an easy, comfortable routine, and they hadn’t been in a hurry to get to the altar. His proposal came almost two years to the day after their first date.

She looked in her rearview mirror and, with his doggy grin in place, Boomer watched the scenery fly by.

She’d seen a picture of him on her social media account and those sad eyes had been her undoing. Unable to forget that face, she’d gone to the rescue two days later and filled out the adoption paperwork. She’d been totally unprepared for how much work had waited for her, but she didn’t regret a single moment. There was something so innocent about Boomer, almost childlike.

Yes, he could be an enormous pain in her ass, but she didn’t care. He was hers. They’d make this work. She crossed her fingers as she turned her car onto the county road that would take her to Riley Creek. She’d always loved the little town, but it was on the far side of a state park and a thirty-minute drive from where she lived.

She checked the time on the clock in her dash. She couldn’t help but feel that the closer to got to her destination, the farther she got from where she was meant to be.

Her car stuttered.

What in the world?

Then her car coughed.

With both hands on the steering wheel, she peered at the gas gauge. The little red needle lay just under the bottom line on the gauge and right on top of the letter E. Beside that ominous letter, a little orange dot glowed in a bright, obnoxious orange.

With one final shudder, her car went silent.

To find out what happens next, get More Than a Rescue. I’ll work on getting Amazon to fall in line with my diabolical plans for world domination. They’ll fall in line. Eventually. lol. …(Yes, this silliness is how I keep my world going when things get overwhelming. lol)

Cover Reveal!

More Than A Rescue cover 30p

Isn’t it pretty? I think so. lol.

The hero in More Than a Rescue is Caleb from Catching Cara. There is only a brief mention of him where Joe MacDonald says he’s a good guy and can be trusted. That stuck with me. I figured if Joe trusted Caleb enough with his Cara, then Caleb must be worthy of his own story.

He rescues the bride and makes sure she gets to the altar while wishing she was his.

On the way to the wedding, Olivia is plagued by one calamity after another. When a handsome Sherriff’s Deputy offers her and her dog Boomer a lift, she realizes she might not want to walk down the aisle after all.

Caleb knows what he wants and tries to be patient after her abrupt breakup, but even a good guy has his limits. Although Olivia decided it was best for her and Boomer to go it on their own for a while, he’s got a favor to ask her…

When sparks ignite between them, Olivia and Caleb realize this may be more a rescue.

Dark Horse Allies update

I have my first Dark Horse Allies cover!

And a release plan of sorts! Kinda. Mostly.

First things first. More Than a Rescue is sweet, sexy, and short novella. I wrote it for a specific thing and now that specific thing is finished and the story is mine to do with as I please. (I LOVE that aspect of being an independent author!) Due to the length (or lack of) I want to price More Than a Rescue as a free book so I’m not doing preorders. Figuring out those logistics is more than my summer-baked brain can handle.

It will be free at every retailer that I can possibly make it so right from the start but Amazon is trickier. Because I don’t do the exclusive thing, Amazon won’t let me set my price any lower than 99cents. So that’s what I’ll have to do there. Eventually and hopefully sooner rather than later they will price match and drop their price. I’ll do my best to let everyone know as soon as the price drops. Of course you’re welcome to buy it at 99cents but I just want to be as up front as possible with everyone. It will be free as soon as I can finagle it. And of course, you’re more than welcome to report the price to amazon and nudge them along if you wish.

Monday I am sending out my newsletter and this… except without the peek-a-boo bit. So… it might not be a bad idea to subscribe to my newsletter if you haven’t already. Plus I give away goodies and share excerpts and such.

More Than A Rescue cover reveal 30

I’ll do a website cover and excerpt reveal here on Wednesday and hopefully have the links for purchase.

Oh! I hope everyone has a fantastic holiday! I’ll be working both at the EDJ and on book stuff, but you know. It’s what makes the world turn.

Stay tuned!

A new thing! Dark Horse Allies

Like most every author I’ve met, I suffer from having far too many ideas and characters floating around in my head and not enough time. One of my biggest regrets is knowing that I’ll never be able to give them all the time and attention they deserve. I can not tell you how many story possibilities there are for the characters who are nearly as important to me as my own family and friends.

Many of them them aren’t actual members of  the Dark Horse team, but they are a definite part of that world and since the Dark Horse world spans a couple of different counties it’s kind of hard to label. And I hate to box myself in, any more than necessary. (Heaven knows almost anything could happen up in the scattered mess of my head, lol) After some thought I decided to go with Dark Horse Allies as a label for these offshoots. For now I’m doing a few scattered novellas. Some of them have been released in anthologies and now (or soon) I’ll have the rights again. So some of them are already written and they won’t take any time from my writing schedule.

The first one is coming together now and I’ll have a cover, and release date announcement very soon. Oh! AND since the first one is short, I plan to make it FREE. So bear with me and I’ll have lots of goodness to share very, very soon! *hugs*

April Update

Quickie update.

First, thank you to everyone who has invested themselves in my Dark Horse series!

Peeps!? Earlier this month Protecting Kate hit number two at both Amazon and iBooks. Kate has stayed on both bestseller lists for a week and a half! Both Cara and Leigh made appearances on the iBooks bestseller list as well. I never thought I might have 3 books on a bestseller list at one time but um. Yeah. I did.

Reviews are coming in like crazy for all three books and I couldn’t be happier. So from the bottom of my heart, to my long-time readers and the new, thank you so very much. Truly.

Second? There will be more Dark Horse books! I never intended for the series to end at three books. It was very important to me that all the the threads from the first three books were all tied up, but all along I’ve planned for Noah and James to get their own stories. So if you happen to see anything out there that says otherwise? Not true. I love this series and there are at least two more coming, possibly three. (‘Cause there’s no telling what or who will crawl out of the woodwork once I get going, lol)

And I have something else that’s brewing too. I don’t have all the kinks figured out yet, but as silly as it sounds, I know the way my author brain works and this…thing isn’t going to leave me be until I finish it. It’s dark and sexy and exciting.

And a third thing…I’ll be at RT in Atlanta and will be signing at least three, maybe four events. When I get a minute I’ll try to post the specific times.

Sending my love!

Trent rounded the corner and stopped in the barn’s open doors.

Several things hit him at once.

A stunning brunette with hair halfway to her ass stood near Molly’s stall in a dress that displayed a body capable of making grown men cry. The boots, though a smart choice for the barn, were the last thing he’d ever expect to see on such a beautiful woman. Her classical good looks spelled trophy wife.

The slightly taller man in a blue button-up and city shoes had moved into her personal space and, though he seemed to know her well, the look on her face made it clear she was anything but happy to see him.

The second, slightly older man stood back a bit and watched with interest. He’d honed in on the brunette, fixated to a point that left Trent doubting a bomb blast could break his focus. Like the first man, he wore expensive shoes that shouted boardroom or…shit—politician.

Maybe he couldn’t toss the two pricks out with the trash, but he could put an end to their harassment.

“Preston, I divorced you, remember? Please leave me alone.” Her voice reminded him of honeyed bourbon. The warm, smooth tones whispered through him, making every cell take notice and reach for more.

“Kate, this will only take a minute of your time. We have a proposition for you…” The first man stepped even closer before he reached out to grasp her arm. She shrank back, pressed against the stall door. When Trent saw the golden tan of her arm turn white beneath the man’s brutal grip, he saw red.

She winced and tried to yank her arm free, but the man held fast. “I just need you to listen to me. Damn you, always so stubborn,” the man said through gritted teeth, as if ready to lose his temper.

Trent had heard and seen enough.

“Kate? There you are. I’m sorry I was late.” He slid in beside her and asshole number one immediately released her arm and stepped back. Figured. Trent couldn’t think of much worse than a coward who’d lay a hand on a woman, but didn’t have the balls to stand up to another man.

“Can I help you? I promised to introduce my…Kate… to pretty little Molly, here.” Trent’s smile filled with pure menace and let the men wonder about his relationship with the brunette. He turned his back to the men, dismissing them.

He glanced at her face to verify that she understood and would cooperate. Light brown eyes met his full of equal parts shock, wariness and relief. He could work with that. Once the tension in her heart-shaped face eased, her beauty jabbed him in the gut. Something deep and primal took root, an unbreakable leash holding him fast to his course.

Heaven help the man who tried to sway him.

“Where’d you find the boots? I didn’t even think about your shoes when I made my offer.” He clicked at Molly, and she cautiously came to stand in the middle of the stall. Another strike against the two idiots. They’d made one of his horses nervous. Molly might belong to the Mitchells, but she’d always be one of his animals.

“They’re Carol’s barn boots. I didn’t think she’d mind.” Her voice knocked him in his chest and slid down low beneath his belt.

“Smart girl. A man’s gotta love a lady who knows her way around a farm.” He clicked again and murmured to his girl. He loosely caged his arms around the two legged female and did his best to focus on the four legged one. “Come see Kate. You’ll like her. Ignore those two suits. They’re leaving.” Molly came forward and allowed Kate to rub a gentle caress over her nose.

He turned his head back to the men and didn’t bother to hide the fury from his expression. He hoped they understood they weren’t welcome and, if not for the females, he wouldn’t let them off with a verbal warning. “Gentlemen, we’ll see you later, correct?”

“Kate, we really need to speak with you about a business matter.”  The instant her ex-husband spoke, he felt tension roll off her.

“Not now and not today you don’t. She’s mine for the evening. We have a date with Molly.” He eased in as close as he could get without touching her expensive dress. He reached a hand out to Molly and breathed in the sweet, seductive scent of the woman before him.

Silence filled the barn for what felt like an eternity and then he heard the rustle of footsteps leaving. “They’re gone now. Do you want me to back off or wait a moment in case they come back?”

The heavy silence was broken only by the sound of Kate’s heavy breaths and the swish of Molly’s tail. “Wait a moment, please.” Not much more than a silken whisper, her words brushed over him. She’d been so quiet that he’d almost missed the waver of anxiety. They’d really rattled her.

He clenched his fists on top of the stall door. He breathed in her scent and pushed his anger down. “My pleasure.” And it was. So what if the polished princess before him was the polar opposite of what he wanted in a woman? She was no hardship to look at and that voice of hers went straight to his cock. He needed to keep her talking as he fought the urge to look down her cleavage.

Leigh Ann MacDonald finally gets her day! Will she get her man? Will Rick Evans get his girl…or his girlS. *hint-hint*

Okay, okay. Taunting my faithful readers isn’t very nice. I’m just a wee bit slap-happy after all the work that has gone into this book’s release. I know that you all have been very patient and I can’t thank you enough!

I’m working on the print edition of Finding Leigh now, but at this moment the ebook should be available at most retailers and I should have the print edition up, hopefully within a few days.

I love you guys!

And as for that girlS hint… Here’s another one.

A ghost emerges from Rick’s past, kidnapping the woman he loves and the leader of Dark Horse Inc. will stop at nothing to get her back.
Leigh Ann MacDonald values love and loyalty above all else. When Rick denies their attraction, he deals a callous blow to her tender heart, but their search for the little girl with no home brings them back together. Their passion grows, but when frustration mounts, can their love survive a race against time? Terror, multiplying obstacles, and a search for a missing girl—it’s time to call in Dark Horse Inc.

Finding Leigh Excerpt

I know this book has been a long time in the writing, but I can’t express how happy I am with the way it turned out!

When gunshots barked right outside the door, she dropped like a stone to the ground. She had no idea what caused the commotion, but she wanted nothing to do with it or any stray bullets. When the door opened and closed just a moment later, she held her breath. Fear sent her heart racing, fighting to get out of her chest.

Then she heard two magical words.

“Fuck. Me.”

It wasn’t the words so much as the weak, rasping voice that she recognized. Before her brain could tell her mouth to stop and be cautious, quiet, the stupid orifice opened.

“Rick?” For all she knew, she might be imagining things. She struggled to move, but in her haste, she fell.

Footsteps rushed over and then big hands were on her, turning her until she sat on her backside. Then in the murky darkness, she heard the voice that she’d worried might be gone forever. Rick’s. “Thank Christ. Are you okay?” She wanted to sob with relief, wanted desperately to wrap her arms around him and crush him to her.

Yet, she couldn’t. She was as helpless as a turtle on its back.

“I’m fine. Please tell me you have a knife?” Her head buzzed with a hundred questions, but their situation went above and beyond dire.

Low, a little bit gravely and a lot tired, he spoke into her ear. “Yeah. I do. Don’t move.” She ached to lean closer and absorb his presence, his everything. He cupped her ankles and examined the ties around her ankles.

His hands shook as he pulled out his knife.

“Rick. I—I’m so sorry. This is all my fault. Your leg? I—”

“Not now. And it’s not your fault. Never. Let’s concentrate on getting out of here alive. Okay?” He sounded so tired, utterly drained of his usual strength. He should be in a hospital bed, not running a Dark Horse rescue operation.

Speaking of which… Something didn’t add up.

“Rick. Where are the rest of the crew?” It might be Rick’s newly formed team, but considering the shape he was in, she didn’t think Trent would let him participate in a rescue mission. She might have only known him for a few months, but she knew enough about Trent Dawson to understand he would lock Rick down if he wasn’t up to a job.

His hands trembled on her legs. Alarmed, she looked at him closer. Was it the yellow tinted light casting the sickly hue to his skin? When sweat beaded on his forehead she feared it wasn’t. His breaths were short and shallow. He didn’t look up to walking out of the room on his own steam.

Not to mention her overprotective brother Joe who, at the minimum, would be right in the thick of things, if not barging in and taking over. Something stank to high heaven.

“Sweetheart, don’t move.” Despite the noticeable tremble in his hands, he positioned the blade with precision beneath the tie.

“Yeah. You already said that. What’s going on?” When he wouldn’t meet her eyes, her stomach sank.

His only response was to cut her bonds loose. A million pins and needles stabbed her legs. An excruciating rush of feeling returned to her lower limbs. It was all she could do not to cry out. The trembling in her muscles made Rick’s hands look like immovable granite. He sat the knife down and, starting at her ankles, tried to massage some feeling back into her legs.

Outside the room, one voice rose above the others. The one who’d taken charge and seemed the most capable had returned. “What the hell is going on here? Give me that fucking gun.”

All the other voices started talking at once, spilling a tangled story.

“Something’s up. The door to the utility room is locked. It was unlocked when I got here. I found the key. Don’t let anyone out, nobody fucking move until I get the lights back on. Not a fucking millimeter.”

“We gotta go, babe. We’re sitting ducks.”

“Okay.” The only thing she knew was that she had to trust Rick’s abilities.

He considered the window then he looked back to her. “It’ll be a tight fit, but I think we can make it.”

Finding Leigh Release Update

Hey there!

I have a quick update on Finding Leigh’s release date. I have tentatively set March 14th for the third Dark Horse Inc. book’s release.

As of today, preorders are currently live at Kobo and iBooks. As typical, my calamity-causing tendency has somehow led me to break Amazon. I am in the middle of emailing back and forth with them over a fix. I also hope to hear from Barnes and Noble soon. So if everything goes as planned (I know, right? lol!) I hope to have preorders set everywhere by the end of this week. I promise to post the links here as soon as I get them. I will also send out my newsletter with the first except and t-shirt winners and all sorts of goodies. It’s going to be an exciting one, for sure!

I can’t express how much I appreciate all your patience! Truly.

Oh! And a quick little side note! I’m hip deep in edits and the EDJ and…and…my usual craziness, BUT in the last week or so? I made two people cry with Finding Leigh! Like happy/good cry! I can’t tell you all how badly I want to share this book with everyone!

Sending big hugs and love!
