IT’S EVERYWHERE because I’m still up to my eyeballs in post-conference swag disorganization and my latest release, Sunlight’s Kiss is now available just about everywhere – Bookstrand, Amazon and Barnes and Noble. So, now that it’s available for virtually everyone with an e-reader I thought it would be a good time to hold a giveaway.

Sunlight’s Kiss is the second book in my Demon Runners of Unearth series. It’s filled with mythology, smexy-times, demons, little creatures that go bump in the night and…the one thing I think all romance readers want…a happily-ever-after.

To celebrate I’m giving away one grand prize and three first prizes. For the Grand prize I’m gifting a multi-author signed canvas tote from Lori Foster’s Reader Author Get Together, swag and a 25$ gift card to the ebook retailer of the winner’s choice. For the three first prizes I’m gifting a small goody bag and flashlight pen. I’ll add a list of signatures on the canvas tote at the end of the post.

Blurb –

When a man of ice meets a lady of Light…

Like a common criminal, the good girl librarian is thrust into the harsh realm of Limbo with nothing more than the clothes on her back. Alone with no knowledge of why she’s been banished, Calysta has nowhere to go and no one to turn to. She wants nothing more than answers and peace until a gruff, sexy as sin, male gives her a taste of the real world.

Cyril, loner and demon hunter, is sent to track and detain an unknown misfit. Filled with suspicion, the last thing he expects to find is an amber-eyed beauty tattered and unconscious. There’s no denying when he discovers her true nature that she sparks a desire like he’s never known. And how much trouble could one sweet, sexy librarian cause?

When danger haunts Calysta, Cyril will stop at nothing to keep her safe. But what’ll happen when his only ally is a sworn enemy?

Excerpt-

“I’m fine.”

“No you’re not. You’re wearing a plastic smile. You might as well be pouting. You’re unhappy. Tell me what’s wrong.” He wanted her to tell him so he could fix it. Yep, there was more of that stuff those dreams were made of.

“I am pouting. I’m bored. I’m stressed. I have no idea what’s going on or how long whatever it is will continue. Comfort-wise this island is a million steps above Limbo. I have excellent company and every luxury I could ask for. You’ve shown me pleasures I’d given up hope of ever experiencing. I have everything except answers. I’m still in Limbo.”

“If you could go anywhere or do anything right now, what would you do?” He came to stand at her back and trailed a fingertip up the curve of her upper arm. A soft nuzzle brushed the back of her ear. His efforts at soothing her weren’t working.

She let out a broken laugh. “I’d love nothing more than to simply experience life. As long as I can remember I’ve been the good girl and done nothing except what I’ve been told. And now that I’m away from home, I can’t enjoy it.

“I’m sorry. You don’t deserve this. You’ve done nothing but go out of your way to take care of me. You’ve tried to make this bearable and all I’ve done is complain and dump on you. You must be tired of it, of me, by now.” A perfectly balmy breezed blew a strand of hair into her face. She tucked it behind her ear when really she felt like taking handfuls of the stuff and yanking it out.

“No. You’re wrong, very wrong. This is the easiest and most pleasurable job I’ve ever had.” He kissed the curve of her shoulder, but that didn’t take the sting out of his words. She tried to make herself thankful that he’d said it. She needed another reminder that’s all she was to him, a job. She wasn’t much more than one of the rogues he tracked. Sure, she was prettier, but that was the only thing she had going for her. She couldn’t let herself forget what she was.

She pulled away and paced. He followed and waited where the path met the sand.

“That’s my point exactly. I’m nothing but a burden or a job or a troublemaker. I just want to be me!” She turned and flung her hand. Equal parts pain and pleasure began in her heart, swelled, and raced through her shoulder and down her arm. Amber light shot from her palm and struck the base of a palm tree. With a thunderous boom, the base exploded into a storm of splinters. Frozen by shock, she stood and stared as the top half came crashing down directly over Cyril’s head.

“No!” In a panic, she put both hands out in a stopping motion. The tree’s remains stopped midair.

Cyril seemed as stunned as she felt. He just stood there, staring.

“Move!” Dear gods make him move. She didn’t know what she was doing. She hadn’t known she could levitate objects, let alone how long she could hold something so big. She’d die if she hurt Cyril.

Cyril blinked, shook his head as if clearing a haze from his mind, and then disappeared. Then he stood directly behind her, with his front touching her back. She was so rattled her teeth chattered and not even the reassuring warmth of his touch settled her.

“It’s okay. You did good. I’m okay. Let’s see if we can set this down”—with a loud crash the tree dropped like a stone on the lounge chairs, smashing them both—“gently.”

With her pulse racing and her muscles quaking, she threw herself into the only safe place she had, his arms. Then she burst into tears.

“What am I?”

“Not what. Who. You are Calysta, you’re my Caly. We’ll get this figured out soon. Okay?” Firm, steady strokes rubbed up and down her back in a soothing rhythm.

“No, I’m your charge, your duty. I’m a task to be marked off your list at the earliest convenience.”

“Bullshit. You are so much more than anyone has ever given you credit for. This is your opportunity to prove it. Baby, you can set the worlds on fire. This is your chance to blow your mother away and show her you are so much more than an obedient little daughter. As for me? I’m not your warden, I’m your slave. I–I’d do anything for you.”

“Then let me go. You said I can’t jump realms with the anklos on, right?”

“Ah. Yeah, I said that b—”

“Then remove it. Let me go.”

“I wish I could, but it’s not safe. I won’t release you to an unknown danger. Something is hunting you.”

“You’ll keep me safe just so I can wither away in a pretty prison? How can I set the worlds on fire in a fucking prison? Please don’t make me beg.” What did it matter? She had no pride. She had nothing that wasn’t given to her. A tight ball of frustration gathered and fisted beneath her sternum.

She flattened her palms on his chest and pushed with all her might and stumbled, almost falling into his lap. What the hell?

He’d landed on his ass in the sand. What was going on? This was Cyril. He was a brick wall. He was an immortal, a Runner for gods’ sake, and she’d knocked him on his ass?

This is the second book in the Demon Runners series and for those of you who’ve read Azrael’s Light, you may remember Cyril. It’s a treat to see the big, hard Runner knocked on his ass by the sweet and sassy, petite Calysta. Sunlight’s Kiss releases May 14th with Siren-Bookstrand.

Amy’s world update

I apologize for the continued blog slacking. It’s a sad excuse, but also very true that life keeps me so damn busy. Here’s a small update on what’s happening in my world.

Writerly-type stuff… Sunlight’s Kiss, the second book in the Demon Runners of Unearth series has been officially accepted at Siren Publishing and we’re looking at a mid-May release date. I love this little book and can’t wait to share Cyril and Calysta with the world. As for Crave, I’m spending nearly every spare moment I have writing the second book now. I haven’t let anyone read a single word yet but I’m both tremendously excited and nervous about this one. I’m going for hot and sweet and I think it’s turning out well. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Personal – My fingers are doing much better, finally. I know a hand/finger injury doesn’t sound like much but it’s there every time you touch something. As much time as I spend on the computer both as an author and in my real world job it’s been kinda scary. It’s still not a hundred percent healed but at least the pain level has gone way down.

My kids are keeping me busy and so is the rest of the family but that’s just how my world goes. And as long as my messy, chaotic world is rolling along, it’s all good.

Four leaf clovers, rainbows, leprechauns and Irish Cream are the first things that come to mind when I think of St. Patrick’s Day. All of the above are things that bring a smile to my face. So do prizes, friendship and new release news. For this girl, that’s like Christmas, a birthday and Halloween all in one day, lol.

He tapped his fingers on the bar, waiting while a shapely bartender filled an order at the bar opposite him. The little human filled out her brown leather pants with some seriously sexy curves. He raised an eyebrow in appreciation as her backside discreetly swayed in time to the music.

When she turned around to face him, he was smacked in the face with an odd sense of familiarity. She stopped dead in her tracks and dropped the bottle of alcohol she’d been carrying. Standing frozen in place as a barely dressed waitress tried to get her attention, she stunned him. The scent of spilt vodka filled the air, and the pounding music paused.

“Boss? Are you okay? Hey? That piece of tall, dark, and handsome over there wants to speak with you.” The waitress tapped her on the shoulder and then walked off shaking her head. The brunette blinked the most stunning green eyes he’d ever seen and seemed to gather her wits as she waved the waitress off. It wasn’t the first time he’d seen a woman struck stupid by his presence. Yet, for a split second, he could have sworn he’d seen a glimmer of recognition in her eyes. But that was impossible.

As a mere human, she wouldn’t have the faintest idea that Death even existed, let alone stood impatiently in her club. She was the most intriguing woman he’d seen in centuries, if not longer. She seemed so very familiar, yet he doubted he would have forgotten a face as striking as hers. It was almost heart shaped with a little pointed chin and a bow-shaped mouth. Chocolate hair, darker than Abaddon’s murky abyss, framed her face and swung down past her shoulders. The tails of a miniscule white blouse were tied tightly just beneath her breasts, drawing his gaze to an enticing display of cleavage. A spark of green light drew his sight lower. A small emerald dangled from her belly button, calling him to press his mouth to the skin just above her low-riding pants.

Yet one alarming detail instantly dried his salivating mouth. Her Kor, the Fates’ signature glyph that should be visible on her forehead, was missing. She looked human, and smelled deliciously human, yet the hallowed symbol he spent his entire life recognizing and adhering to was missing. It made no sense. He spent his entire existence a slave to that symbol, and to find it simply…not there…on a human baffled him beyond belief. Had her fate not yet been determined, even at this late a time in her life? The thought of one day having to steal the breath from this lovely creature’s body made his chest tighten with an oddly uncomfortable feeling. He stomped the alien feelings into submission so he could get to work. He’d never been one to let a pretty face distract him. His vacation waited.

Update Quickie

I have two quickie updates and both are great news. The first piece of news makes me ridiculously happy. Sunlight’s Kiss, the second book in the Demon Runners of Unearth has been scheduled for release sometime near May. This paranormal romance series is close to my heart I love sharing these books. I’m so excited to get Cyril and Calysta’s story out there for everyone to read. Favorite characters from Azrael’s Light make an appearance and you’ll meet some new characters, some yummy and some not-so yummy. I’ll share updates as they come, I promise.

And for the second update- on Monday I’ll be participating in the Kiss Me I’m Irish blog Hop. What better way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day than with great books and prizes? I hope you’ll consider stopping by to check out the fun. I know I’m looking forward to it.

Why I write Smut.

I know it’s not a new topic and I know others who have written about it have surely stated their opinions more eloquently than I can, but at the moment, it’s a topic that’s nagging me like a sore thumb.

I can’t help it. Really.  Writing is a part of who I am. I cannot turn my imagination off. It’s a part of me that is always there and it’s looking for an opportunity to break free and go wild. I truly can’t turn it off.

But I can focus it. I can often choose which topic to feed it and then to an extent guide the stories I’m given. It surprises me all the time and stories never go exactly the way I expect them to, but those surprises are part of the fun.

You know what? If I choose to focus my imagination, then, damn it all, I’m going to pick something I enjoy. And you guessed it. I like “smut”.

But it’s so much more than Smut. No question, I’m guilty of throwing that word around. A lot. I’m guilty of using it as a preemptive strike against criticism I assume is coming when someone asks, “What do you write?”

“Smut.” And they smile and change the subject or maybe I have to answer a couple of quick questions about publishing or whatever, but soon enough the subject is changed. Easy peasy. This routine is getting old. And frustrating.

I write romance and yes, I write erotic romance because I can choose what to focus my imagination on. What better subject to focus on could there be than people falling in love and finding their Happily Ever After? And yes, I’m not ashamed to admit that I write erotic romance. I enjoy writing stories where people explore their selves and each other through both emotional and physical intimacy. I enjoy it so much, that I’m not going to quit writing or make apologies for it. Ever.

I don’t care if I sell one book, a thousand or millions.

Character Author Interview Blog Hop

Thanks for coming by my stop on the blog hop. You’re just in time to join me at the club, Hellfire. It’s owner, Diane invited me to stop by for a drink.

“Hey, Diane! It’s great to see you. The bar’s looking good.”

“Thanks, Amy, Alice and Brick are a kick-ass team. How are you doing?” I watch as she pours five drinks in about ten seconds flat. It’s never failed to amaze me how bartenders are able to juggle so many tasks at once. I couldn’t handle the drive-thru when I worked at a fast food restaurant as a teen.

“I’m busy, but good. I just finished my third book. I’m getting ready to submit it soon. How have you been, seriously? I know things got pretty dicey recently.” Guilt hits me as I see the sparkling green Light in her eyes dim. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have mentioned that.”

“You’re fine. And not talking about it won’t erase what happened. I’m tired and worried about the missing women. I still haven’t found them all. Azrael’s helping me whenever he can.” The Light sparks into full intensity when she mentions his name.

“How is Azrael?”

A bright smile lit her features. “He’s great. He’s keeping a busy schedule, but if anyone can handle it, he can. He just realized he’s going to be an ‘uncle’. He’s started hovering over Lauren, doting on her. It’s cute to watch.”

“Azrael? Cute and doting. Oh boy. Those are two words I never expected to hear anyone use to describe him.” Tall, dark and dangerous? Yes. Deadly? Yes. Sexy as hell? Yes. But he was taken and only a woman as strong as Diane could be his equal.

“How are the kids?” A friendly smile lit her face as she wiped down the bar, pulled out a tray and poured more drinks.

“Bratty and wonderful as always.  I’m trying to teach one of them to drive while the other is driving me batty. They’re a pain in my ass and my heart and soul all tied up into one package.”

“And your writing? How’s that coming. I know it means a lot to you.” It’s difficult not to squirm while being pierced with such an intense focus.

“Good, I think. I hope, at least. I’m working hard at it, squeezing it in whenever I can. My family has realized it’s real to me and they’ve been very supportive.”

“And the Hellspital, as you call it. How are they treating you?” She tipped her chin and glowered as if she dared my co-workers to give me a hard time.

“It could be better, but it could always be worse. I butt head with the doctors from time to time, but the people in my department are good to me. We take care of each other. We have to, especially on nightshift.”

“If you have trouble, let us know. We’ll take care of it.” The green Light of her eyes darkened in color, but somehow brightened in intensity. No one messed with a friend of Diane’s.

“I will and thanks. I gotta go. Will you tell Azrael, and the crew I said hi? I miss working with them.”

“I will. You never know, you may bump into them when you work with Cyril on his story. That’s coming soon, right?”

“Yes, he’s going to meet with me next week. I’m looking forward to it.”

“I’ll let you go, now, but remember. You’re one of ours now, if you need anything, you ask. No arguments.” She leaned over the bar and pulled me into a tight hug. Warmth, ease and energy flowed through me.

“Will do.”

Azrael’s Light Tease

Azrael’s Light is now up at Amazon, as well as Bookstrand. Since my family is away for a few more hours and I’m well rested and in a great mood, I thought maybe I should share some yumminess. Here’s a little tease from Azrael’s Light. What do you think?

“So, Lilith’s sister, tell me your name.” Dark and heady, his command urged her to obey. His voice lowered a notch in both volume and pitch, sending ripples of hunger through her.

How long had it been since she’d felt desire for something more than a piece of chocolate cake? Should she tell him her name? It probably didn’t matter at this point, but something held her back. His dark, heated stare bore right through her, making her feel as if he could see her every secret and desire. Who knew what kind of dark magic Azrael was capable of? If keeping her name to herself was the only secret she’d been allowed, she would hold it close. She looked up at him, through his burgundy irises, and into the depths of his pupils. She stayed silent, refusing his demand. Expecting to see frustration or anger over being ignored, she was surprised to see what looked like amusement. The dim light in his eyes brightened, and one corner of his gorgeous mouth quirked up. Was he laughing at her?

He stepped in once more and took a lock of her hair in his hand. Briefly he rubbed it between his fingers as if savoring the texture and then tucked it behind her ear, grazing the outer shell with a lingering sweep as he pulled his hand away. “You really are a stubborn little thing, aren’t you? Beware, sweetness. That fight only makes you all the more tempting to someone like me. When your resistance finally falls, the victory is so much sweeter.” His eyes pinning her in place and his voice compelling her to follow his lead became a lethal one-two punch, disarming her.

Any intelligence and self-control she had flew right out the window. He was an incubus, luring her in with seductive words and dark promises. Her knees redoubled their efforts to stay upright. She didn’t have time for this, and no way, no how could she make sexy eyes with a Soul Runner. What was she thinking? Every sane thought she had evaporated, and that was the problem. She couldn’t let him get under her skin or her clothes.

“Look, Azrael, you can put away the smolder. You’re wasting it on me. While your story makes sense, I can’t accept anything at face value. I have to put Alia’s safety first. I will always put her first. So until I know for certain what’s going on, you won’t get any help from me. Sorry.”

“That’s a shame. I think working together could benefit us both. Maybe in more ways than one.
“Nope. Not happening. So, I’ll see you later, big guy.” He really needed to leave. Now. It was as if he knew her resolve weakened with each word he spoke in that low, sexy timbre of his. She wouldn’t be surprised to find out he used it intentionally. Using the last of her will, she stomped her bare foot and pointed at the door. If she acted immature, it couldn’t be helped. She would do whatever it took to get him out of her home and on his way. She needed time alone with her thoughts and needed to contact Alia. She hoped she appeared soon. She needed answers almost as badly as she needed to know her niece was all right. Azrael tipped his head down as if letting her know she’d won this round, and then he was gone.

Unearth. It’s a place, not a verb.

Countless millennia ago it was unknowingly created by humans with the spark of Light that lives within each one of us. When enough Light is focused on one vision it can become a reality. Many a god and realm was born this way.

To keep the countless myriad of realms and immortals separate, they are housed in the world of Unearth, a world that parallels Earth. Each individual realm in Unearth has borders keeping it separate from the others.

Very few are able to travel unheeded to any and all realms. One such breed of immortal is the Demon Runner. Demon Runners are sparingly appointed by the elder gods. In order to make such an appointment, the elder god must give the Demon Runner a small fraction of his or her own power or Light. Though their assigned duties vary, Demon Runners act as an immortal cleanup crew, rounding up and dragging home any stray immortals that have escaped to Earth. Whether they’ve come to Earth to wreak havoc or quietly hide in the shadows makes no difference. They will be found, returned to and sentenced in their home realm.

Now, a Soul Runner, the only Soul Runner, is a character you may be familiar with. Think Grim Reaper. Death. He answers only to the Sisters of Fate. Working nearly nonstop, he’s responsible for collecting every soul that’s departed from its mortal shell at the time of death.

Overworked and exhausted, he’s over eighty years past due for his vacation. Not only is Azrael exhausted, he is burdened with the heavy weight of guilt. For the first time ever he’s been gifted with an apprentice to lighten his load. Only something goes terribly wrong and the apprentice ends up in the very abyss, they deliver only the darkest of souls to. Then to make matters worse, Lilith drops a bomb on his vacation capable of destroying both Earth and Unearth.

How can a lone woman named Diane and something as basic as love conquer Unearth’s madness?
